City Spirit envisions the underground world of New York City as a fantastical reflection of the city above. What appears to be darkness becomes a vibrant spiritual landscape, populated by celestial elements, urban forms, and creatures inspired by the gargoyles found on NYC buildings, while arriving trains streak through like shooting stars.

 

Created for MTA’s Subway Art Card program, the piece explores the subway as a place of transition, possibility, and new beginnings—an unseen world where the spirit of NYC continues to grow beneath the surface.
